Be Prepared to Get Messy

It’s a new year, and there is so much potential. We have New Year’s resolutions, great plans and a new outlook of what can be.  It’s kind of like being a race horse behind the start gate, and you know that you have the potential to run, and stretch yourself, stride after stride.  You could potentially have your best race ever, if you intend to and decide to, but, it might not all be nice and tight like we plan it.

Here’s a tip to help you maintain that incredible energy and enthusiasm that you have at this time of year for creating and being and doing all that you can see as potential.

Tip – Be prepared to get messy.

A horse before the race is beautifully groomed, yet afterward is sweaty, muddy and often foaming at the mouth.

Imagine you’re out of the gate and moving quickly toward your goals and targets.  Things are bound to get messy.  Not everything will go as planned.  People will get entangled with your mission and vision or your methods. Change rarely ever happens just as planned, so be prepared for things to go awry, and to balance being messy with going quick and riding the bumps along the way.

I recall in my childhood days as a horse back rider, taking a lesson from a German instructor who gave us all a wine glass filled with water.  We had to ride quickly but maintain as much water in our glass at the finish line.  It was a lesson in trying to ride the ups and downs of the horse’s movements as smoothly as possible.  I was soaked in the end, but it was an important lesson in balancing the acceptance of getting messy, with moving quickly and yet trying to ride out the process as smoothly as possible.

Will you allow yourself to get messy while you harness the incredible energy and enthusiasm you have to achieve your potential?  Take the reins and go for speed, balance and don’t be afraid to get messy.

 See you on the track,
