What Is Your WHY?

Find Your Why

Do you remember how curious you were as a kid? Always asking, “Why?”— “Why is the sky blue? Why does he have more toys? Why is the water disappearing from our sandcastle?” It seemed like there was no end to your questions. That childlike curiosity is something we often forget as adults, but it holds the key to something powerful—the power of WHY.

We all have a significant WHY inside of us. It’s our passion, our purpose, the reason we do what we do and live the way we want to live. Over time, life piles on routines, expectations, and the pressures of “just getting by,” and that powerful WHY gets buried. But it’s still there, waiting for us to dig deep and find it again.

Your WHY Power is Stronger Than Your Willpower

When things get tough, and you’re running on empty, your WHY is what keeps you going. Whether it’s your family, a cause you care about, your career, or a dream you’re chasing—your WHY is the fuel. It’s what grounds you when life feels like a whirlwind.

You know it’s time to tap into your WHY power when you feel stuck. Maybe you’re resisting change, avoiding that uncomfortable conversation, or struggling to let go of something holding you back. In those moments, you need to remember WHY it all matters. Getting clear on that will give you the courage to step out of your so-called “comfort zone” and into the unknown, where real growth happens.

The funny thing about our comfort zone—it’s not that comfortable at all. It’s just familiar. The fact that you’re thinking about making a change shows that you’re seeking something better. But to get there, you must figure out WHY it’s important.

So, are you clear on your WHY?

  • What are you passionate about?
  • Why do you do the work you do?
  • Why does it matter to you?
  • How can staying grounded in your Why help you move through conflict?

These questions aren’t just for reflection—they’re the keys to unlocking the drive and inspiration that not only fuels you but also those around you. Finding your deepest WHY might even bring tears to your eyes—that’s when you know you’ve hit something real. That’s the WHY that makes you cry.  It’s not sadness; it’s passion and purpose that move your emotions!

Uncovering your WHY is the key to unlocking your potential if you’re feeling stuck or seeking clarity in your career or personal life. Once you discover it, letting your WHY guide you becomes your foundation. My book, Sandbox Strategies for the New Workplace, explores this in greater depth. Dig deep and find that driving force that will move you forward!

So, what is your WHY?

With peace,

Penny
