HOLY SHIFTS!

The halfway point in a year is a good time to reflect on personal and professional goals.

Does your behavior match your goals? Or are old habits and beliefs preventing you from attainment?

Shifting behavior and old patterns is possible.  Life presents enlightening moments that can be the catalyst to shift your mind and behavior for better relationships and sandbox strategies that can greatly enhance your career.

I call these moments “HOLY SHIFTS,” and I refer to them often in my new book, Sandbox Strategies for the New Workplace: Conflict Resolution from the Inside Out.

Holy Shifts!

These points of awareness are powerful opportunities to make lasting personal and professional progress. Pay attention to these moments.  They may arise while reading a book, listening to a podcast, watching a movie, or may be passed on by the wisdom of someone else.

Anytime you feel the poke, the nudge, the bolt of enlightenment — when you gain an understanding of something, and you know it can shift your way of being — write it down as an actionable item to work on.

I created a worksheet companion to the book, for the collection of these ideas to help readers take action.  Just scan the QR code at the back of the book to get your download.

You can also say “HOLY SHIFT” anytime you want to shift an old way of thinking. Remember, everything you do begins with a thought, so when you want to change your thought, try saying “HOLY SHIFT” and choose a different thought. Because you get to choose your thoughts, pick a better or higher thought, paired with an elevated emotion.

For example, if you are frustrated that you must physically go into the office after a long hiatus of work-from-home, you can decide to shift your way of thinking when you notice the pattern of resistance or negativity.  Say “HOLY SHIFT” and follow with a different thought that will help you accept the change and feel better about it. “It feels good to dress up, leave the house, and get back to a routine that separates my home and work life” or “I’m looking forward to the collaboration and real-life socializing that I can do with my colleagues today”, or “this day is going to go by very quickly with chatter and opportunity buzzing all around me”.

Holy Shifts!

So much of the resolution we are looking for comes from digging within and being willing and able to shift with the sands of time.  We can all use this tool of shifting our perspective and over time, even our personality.

It starts with awareness to recognize the thoughts, behaviors, and patterns that are holding us back, and the persistence to shift them into alignment with where we want to grow personally and professionally.

HOLY SHIFT is catchy, fun, and playful.  Make sure you pronounce the ‘F’ in SHIFT, and enjoy the ride.  You have the second half of the year to practice.
