Managers Impact Mental Health More Than Doctors

Three-fifths of the world’s employees say their job impacts their mental health more than anything else, according to recent research done by the Workforce Institute at UKG, published by Businesswire.com.

According to a recent study, nine out of ten Human Resources and C-suite leaders believe their company has a positive impact on their employee’s mental wellness, yet only half of their employees agree.  One-third say their manager doesn’t recognize the impact they have on their team’s mental health, and over 70% of employees would like the company and manager to do more to support them.

How can we help our team with their mental health?

My burning questions are…

  1. What are employees doing to improve their own mental health?
  2. What are HR managers and C-Suite leaders doing about helping managers be more empathic, open, and trained to understand the issues of their workforce?

Problem: Many front-line managers and supervisors are promoted from within and expected to be great managers without the skills and training to do so, and that amplifies issues, stress, and conflict.

Solution: Dig in with some Relationships and Conflict Management training to help with:

  • Preventing problematic interactions
  • Setting boundaries for difficult behaviour
  • Delegation and trust
  • Managing change and accountability
  • Assertiveness and confrontational skills
  • Raising concerns and challenging conversations
  • Conflict resolution practice
  • Mediating team conflict

To ensure employees are taking responsibility for their own mental well-being to the best of their ability, we also offer training programs for mental health to assist participants with the psychological resilience to cope with crises mentally and emotionally to protect themselves from potential negative effects of past present or future stressors and conflict.
