Tip #9 – Hold people accountable to their performance requirements.

Hold people accountable to their performance requirements by balancing productivity conversations with empathy and support. HR is supposed to be ‘keepers of the culture’, but leaders are lacking empathy, especially with conflicting values of business needs and employee needs.

Accountability is key to changing behaviours because habits determine long-term behaviour shifts. To achieve long-lasting results, we must consider that every person has an iceberg of ‘below the surface’ considerations. Their job is just a piece of who they are, and all parts of them need to be balanced and healthy for true effectiveness.

I’ve always said that where there is resentment there can be no relationship; that training doesn’t take place until behaviour changes; and that failing to create and follow a solid plan of implementation is planning to fail at all attempts to create lasting change.

All ten recommendations can be found in our research report about the Effects of COVID on Workplace Conflict or in this video for HR Managers.
