First Things First For The Holidays

Conflict in the Workplace COVID Survey

Do you ever sit down following the Holiday season feeling exhausted and under-rested, yet disappointed that you didn’t have time for the most important things?

This article will be short (as I know you have a full agenda) with its’ intention to help you ensure that your important things get the time and attention they deserve over the holidays.

How will you ensure that there is harmony between what you truly value as important, and how you spend your time this season? Adults feel a great dissatisfaction when how they spend their time really isn’t in sync with what they feel is important. Let’s face it, we can’t do everything; visit everyone, clean the house, cook, bake, shop, wrap, celebrate, and go go go, while feeling that wonderful peaceful spirit of Christmas.

Think deeply for a moment about 4-6 things that are most important to you this season and write them down. These are the ‘First Things’, the things that matter most to you. Without them, you will be deeply hurt or dissatisfied. For example, celebrating spiritually, family togetherness, baking cookies with a child, donating your time to the community, or getting together with friends … If you are having difficulty finding out what are the things that matter most, imagine that this is your last Christmas – your last chance to do what is important at this time of year. How would you spend your last Christmas?

When you discover what these ‘First Things’ are, and schedule them first as priorities, all the other things will either settle in around them, or they will drop off your to-do list. As Dr. Steven Covey says in First Things First, “Things that matter most should never be at the mercy of things that matter least.” When we do feel good about the roles we determine are important to us, and the time and energy we invest in these roles, we are balanced. That should definitely help us feel the wonderful peace and joy that the Holiday season can offer.

Wishing you a Christmas / Holiday season with fulfillment of your ‘First Things’.

Blessings,

Penny

ps. I would like to personally thank you for your support. I am grateful!
